We are back!

We arrived back home from West Virginia just in time to watch the ball drop.  The funeral service for Shawn’s Grandfather was nice.  We also had some time to take Logan around to show him where we lived and where he was born and some other places.

We caught this sunset somewhere in Maryland on the way down.

The hospital where Logan was born.  About 5 seconds after this was taken….he slid down in the mud to the asphalt and ended up getting filthy….before the funeral of course.

Photo of the point…in Summersville.

And the photo that I had Little Shawn taken of us.  He had to stand on top of a picnic table to get it….he didn’t want to stand in the mud.IMG_1777

These were taken on the top of the Summersville Dam.

This one was taken at the base of the Summersville Dam where they start white water rafting trips.

From there was down to Gauley Bridge to the Falls.  This waterfall is set off the side of the road.  Its huge too. IMG_1799

Another photo taken by Little Shawn for us.

We left there clean and mud free and on to the funeral.  No funeral photos….kinda morbid for my tastes to take photos at someone’s funeral.

Cemeteries are a totally different story…..although, I still won’t take photos if someone is there being buried.  This cemetery is not the one where Shawn’s grandfather was buried.  This one is a family plot where the man Logan was named after was laid to rest.

I never had the opportunity to meet Roy, but the stories that I have been told about him, he seemed to be a character.  One story involves him drinking too much, and falling into the creek that ran in front of our old house…and then striping his clothes off in front of Shawn’s mother so he didn’t get his dad’s vehicle wet when he drove him home….which was across the bridge he fell off of while trying to walk across.  Shawn wanted Logan to have his name because he was really close to him.  Roy had died shortly after we had started dating and he could not get back to WV to attend his funeral.  To this day, he regrets that he wasn’t able to say his goodbyes.

The cemetery itself rests on top of a hill in the middle of nowhere.  You have to turn around in someone's driveway in order to be able to make it to the road/dirt path that leads up to it.  I wish I would have taken a photo of how steep the road/path is though.  There are graves dating back to the 1800s and some are marked only by a large rock.

This is also the same place we changed out of our dress clothes and into casual clothes, much better suited for traveling 8 hours in a vehicle in.  Yes, I changed my clothes in a cemetery.

We then took Logan by the house we used to live in, no photos of that either, since it is someone else’s house now…plus I have a photo of it somewhere.

Not an hour later, the boys were totally knocked out and snoring.IMG_1849IMG_1851

I still wish I would have taken more photos.  There is so much that had changed since we were last there.  Some fires claimed a few businesses and homes. Some places were fixed up. Business out of business etc.

I am glad that we did go. Logan got to connect to a place that we have only spoken of. About people we have spoken of.
