October 7th

The things we do for our kids.....

I walk down to the bus stop each morning. It is usually the only time of day that it is just the two of us. We chat about the weather and check to see how much the leaves on the trees are changing.

Occassionally, we ever stop to talk to a squirrel....or even pick up a newly fallen leaf.

But today.....Oh today what much different. Normally we are side by side chatting, but sometimes Logan is a step or two ahead of me...like today.

We get almost all the way down to the bus stop before Logan stops dead in the middle of the street and says "Oh No". I am thinking he has to go to the bathroom. But no, on the ground in front of him is a turtle. A turtle which was squished by a car. My first statement to Logan...."Don't touch it." He looks at me and says..."Poor turtle." I agree. I can already see where this is going. He says "Why didn't the driver stop and move the turtle or just wait until he crossed the street?" I tell him "I don't know, maybe he didn't see him until it was too late." He says "Poor turtle" and we continue the few more feet to the bus stop.

I can see already starting. Logan standing there.....he is sad that the turtle was hit by a car. Finally he says "I am really upset about the turtle Mom." I tell him I know he is but there is nothing we can do to help the turtle. If we saw him before he got squished, we could have helped him but right now we can't. He says "I know." He is still thinking about the turtle. And then he asks what I had a feeling he was going to ask "Mom can you take him home so we can bury him?" I tell him of course. Finally he smiles and the bus is coming down the street.

So here I am. Logan's mom picking up a squished turtle from the side of the road and putting it in my flower bed so Logan can bury it when he gets home from school. Believe me the thought of moving it to the side of the road crossed my mind.....but I know Logan. He would check.

Here is the things Moms do for their kids!

What a nice and caring boy you have. What a great Mom you are to let him bury the poor turtle.
